If playing YouTube videos in the background is one feature you want on your Android phone, then NewPipe is the app for you. It gives you the capability of not only doing this, but downloading the videos directly from your phone in video or music format. Cool, huh?
What is NewPipe?
“NewPipe does not use any Google framework libraries, or the YouTube API. It only parses the website in order to gain the information it needs. Therefore this app can be used on devices without Google Services installed. Also, you don’t need a YouTube account to use NewPipe, and it’s FLOSS.” As stated on their Github page. This application also disables ads in videos so you can view every video without any annoyance.
Whether you’re one who values your privacy by relying on OSS, or you just want to watch your YouTube videos in a floating window, this application seems to do it all. Under the GitHub page its written that this application is still under development so you can encounter bugs. Personally, this application has been working pretty solid with very little bugs. I’ve encounter once in a while, downloads freezing during the process, after a re-launch, I didn’t come across the issue again.
Some More Feature’s
- Watch YouTube Videos
- Listen to YouTube Videos
- Popup mode (floating player)
- Download videos or audio only!
- Subscription button to have easier access to different channels
Some neat features I’ve found was one where you choose and see what content YouTube is tailoring to users in different countries.
IT’S URGED BY THE DEVELOPERS TO NOT UPLOAD NEWPIPE TO GOOGLE PLAY STORE AS IT VIOLATES THEIR TERMS OF CONDITIONS.
