If you’re an Instagram user who uses the messaging feature, you’ve probably wondered at least once if there was a way to message people on Instagram from your computer.

Well, I’m here to tell you that there is!

It’s called IG:dm and it’s completely free to use. It supports Windows, Mac and Linux. You can view the open-source project on GitHub here.

I’ve been using it for the past two weeks and it’s been a life-saver. I hate being restricted to only my phone, especially when I’m having a long chat with someone. Now, that’s no longer an issue.

In the two weeks that I’ve been using IG:dm, the only con I’ve noticed is the latency I sometimes experience when sending messages, by about ten seconds or so. While others have experienced a hit or miss with notifications, I’ve experienced none, running on Ubuntu 18.04.

Disclaimer: This is app is not affiliated with Instagram, nor is it an Instagram alternative, it’s purely the messaging portion of Instagram, ported into an app.

As always, folks, I hope you enjoyed this article and that it gave you some new insight! Take care.
